- Safety around mains: high voltage (IEC inlet) kept apart from low voltage on the PCB, with fuses.
- Automatic backup when mains fails: mains/battery switchover with a power multiplexer.
- A first version that's quick to prototype: an AC-DC module instead of a discrete conversion stage.
